About

Hi, I am Cuong Le.

I’m an engineering leader and systems engineer. I write clear, first-principles essays about Rust, database internals, and high-performance systems.

My writing started with Rust. Over time, it has expanded toward storage engines, log databases, query systems, compression, indexing, caches, I/O paths, and reliability. I care about systems that have to work under real load, and I try to explain them in simple language with concrete examples.

A few of my Rust essays found a strong audience on Hacker News and Reddit. The common thread in my writing is always the same: understand the mechanism, make the trade-offs explicit, and avoid fluff.

What I write about

  • Rust
Performance, correctness, APIs, and the parts of the language that shape how systems are built.

  • Database internals
Storage engines, indexing, compression, caches, I/O paths, query execution, and reliability.

  • Log databases and query systems
Ingestion, filtering, search, streaming results, cluster design, and practical trade-offs in production systems.
